Associate Director, Health & Life Sciences

This position is responsible for creating meaningful, life-impacting value for Harvard students, alumni, and faculty teams interested in healthcare and life sciences ventures. The ideal candidate has led or been part of the leadership team of a healthcare and/or life sciences startup, is connected to the Boston healthcare/biotech entrepreneurship ecosystem, has experience as a mentor to startups and students, and is an excellent presenter, communicator, and project manager.

We need you to:

  • Serve as the primary Staff Advisor for all Health and Life Sciences teams in the Harvard Innovation Labs ecosystem, using the VERITE! and Milestone methodology to ensure traction.
  • Initiate activities and programs that build the Harvard Innovation Labs as a community home for student entrepreneurs and innovators pursuing Health and Life Sciences ventures and ideas.
  • Develop and implement Health and Life Science workshops as part of the Harvard Innovation Labs core program offerings, available to i-lab, Life Lab, and Launch Lab x teams. Balance recruiting external speakers with personally delivered sessions.
  • Initiate activities and programs that provide meaningful support to Launch Lab X and Life Lab teams.
  •  Serve as the primary liaison to students, student clubs, selected faculty, and administrative staff from across Harvard schools working on Healthcare and Life sciences ventures.
  • Serve as a point of contact for faculty across Harvard who are interested in partnering with the Harvard Innovation Labs to drive their teaching and program ideas. Particular focus areas would be faculty interested in the Health and Life Sciences sector at HMS, GSAS, HSDM, HSPH, HBS, College, but could come from other schools as well.
  • Direct the President’s Innovation Challenge Health & Life Sciences Track with support from the Operations and Marketing team.
  • Build and maintain an understanding of and relationships with the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Boston and other key national hubs, i.e. SF & NYC.

Other Tasks and Accountabilities:

  • Work with Marketing and Operations to ensure Health and Life Sciences programming is executed flawlessly.
  • Work with the Director of Advising to optimize the Venture Incubation Program Mentor Program.
  • Actively participate in the broader innovation community at Harvard and in Boston – in the Health and Life Sciences sector in particular.
  • Foster strong relationships and collaborate with allied organizations around Harvard and its affiliated hospitals, i.e. HMS, HBS, MGH, BWH, Children’s, etc.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience working with undergraduate and graduate students, scientific researchers, medical clinicians.
  • The position requires a high level of organization and deadline orientation as well as problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work extra hours, including evenings and weekends, to meet deadlines and oversee and/or attend events.
  • Agility, gravitas, and high EQ are valued attributes.
  • Solid PowerPoint and Excel skills required.

 Requirements and Qualifications:

The desired candidate has the following experience:

  • 5-10 years of experience leading or growing a healthcare and/or biotech company.
  • Experience working with undergraduate and graduate students, scientific researchers, medical clinicians.
  • Strong diplomacy and communication skills (verbal, written, presentation).
  • Proven experience leading multiple projects requiring collaboration across teams of diverse people to achieve ‘above and beyond’ results.
  • Proven ability to deliver results with minimal oversight (self-starter).
  • MBA, PhD, or MD preferred.
