AWS Immersion Day (multiple events)

3/4
9:00 am — 4:30 pm
Monday, March 4, 2019
Harvard Innovation Labs - Classroom

Overview:

Amazon Web Services is hosting a three part series that illustrates the variety of ways AWS can support you on your journey as a founder and a startup. Open to students from any Boston-area school.

Session 1 | Intro To The AWS Startups Team & Best Practices for Setting up Your AWS Account

10 – 11:15am

This session will discuss base level best practices for getting started on AWS. These include securing the root account, creating users, groups and permissions, discussing roles and policies, using the AWS certificate manager to generate a cert and use with your website/app/api.  We’ll also discuss how to set your AWS infrastructure (VPC, serverless and hybrids). Led by Startups Manager Vincent Ponzo and Solutions Architect Roshan Kothari of the AWS Startups team.

Session 2: How to Build Your Cloud Solution

12 – 2pm

Join for a pizza lunch at noon, and then at 12:30 the session will kick off by addressing the most common questions founders have when launching on AWS. Learn how to use AWS to build your web-stack, how to choose the right database and how to build your machine learning solution. Most importantly, learn how to build a secure and compliant solution from the start. Stay for Q&A until 2pm.

Session 3: Build a Serverless Web Application with AWS Lambda, Amazon API Gateway, Amazon S3, Amazon DynamoDB, and Amazon Cognito

2:30 – 4:30pm

In this workshop, you’ll create a simple serverless web application that enables users to request unicorn rides from the Wild Rydes fleet. The application will present users with an HTML based user interface for indicating the location where they would like to be picked up and will interface on the backend with a RESTful web service to submit the request and dispatch a nearby unicorn. The application will also provide facilities for users to register with the service and log in before requesting rides.

Prerequisites: To complete this tutorial, you will need:
• An AWS account (please create more than 24 hours in advance of tutorial)

• Recommended browser: The latest version of Chrome
