Hack Lab: Learn to Build Twitter in a Weekend

Come to the Harvard Innovation Lab (i-lab) for this weekend of hands-on, learn by building as Code Undercover walks you through their Building Twitter in a Weekend workshop.

In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn to build a mini-Twitter in one weekend. This is a real course where we'll teach your real code, no scaffolds or railsbricks (don't worry if you don't know what those are), that you'll push to the internet where they will be live! Come for the weekend and walk away with your own working mini-twitter plus first-hand experience with:

  • Ruby on Rails
  • Github
  • Heroku

What do I need to attend?

Pre-Requisites: You must be a current Harvard student who's written some code before. Beginners are welcome! (CS50 students or those who have done some tinkering on their own). If you've written some code in the past and know what an object is, you're ready to take this class.

Workshop Requirements:
To participate in the workshop, you must:

  • Bring your own laptop (MacOS is preferred! But Windows is ok if that's all you have)
  • You must commit to attending the entire weekend. Students who don't attend Friday night won't be admitted on Saturday. Those who don't attend Saturday won't be admitted Sunday.

Schedule:
IMPORTANT: You must be able to commit to the entire weekend in order to attend:

Friday 5:00 - 10:00 (You'll be assigned a 60-90 minute slot within this period to set up your environment)
Saturday 11:00 - 8:00
Sunday 11:00 - 8:00

Lunch & Dinner will be served Saturday & Sunday. And we'll bring snacks for Friday night.
