Founded in 2011, the Harvard Innovation Labs (HIL) is an ecosystem designed to foster entrepreneurship and innovation across the Harvard University community. HIL consists of three entities:

  • The i-lab is available to current students from any Harvard school looking to explore innovation and entrepreneurship at any stage. The i-lab provides the physical and intellectual resources needed to develop and grow startups, including co-working space, advising, office hours with industry experts, workshops, Venture Programs, and the President’s Innovation Challenge (PIC), an annual venture competition.
  • Launch Lab X GEO (LLX GEO) is a nine-month accelerator for Harvard alumni ventures. Applications are accepted from all over the world and open to alumni from all schools.
  • The Pagliuca Harvard Life Lab is a shared laboratory space for high-potential life sciences and biotech startups founded by Harvard faculty, alumni, students, and postdoctoral scholars. The 15,000-square-foot facility has 36 lab workbenches and 50 co-working spaces.

If so, we encourage you to apply for the Senior Director, Administration position at Harvard Innovation Labs, where you will oversee the administrative and marketing functions of a world-class organization providing transformational opportunities to the Harvard community.

What you will do:

  • Spearhead the core business operations of the Harvard Innovation Labs and support the people and teams who lead them:
    • Finance
    • Human Resources
    • Operations, facilities, and event management
    • Technology
    • Marketing and communications (including analytics, brand experience, creative, digital and social media, operations)
  • Oversee key systems and annual / regular planning processes, including:
    • Strategic planning
    • Budgeting
    • Marketing
    • Performance management
    • Procurement
    • Risk and compliance
  • Serve as a key liaison to HBS Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Marketing & Communications, and Operations.
  • Manage a team of 6-8 FTEs, oversee contract-based employees (focused on marketing and communications and technology), and coordinate closely with department heads / functional leaders across the HIL team.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director, the Managing Director of Programs and Engagement, the HIL team, and key stakeholders across Harvard University to ensure the delivery of high-quality, strategically-relevant programming.
  • Align and assess HIL’s core business operations to ensure that:
    • HIL achieves operational excellence across all of its functions.
    • HIL captures relevant metrics and evaluates its performance on a regular basis.
    • HIL works in close partnership with key stakeholders at HBS and across the University.

Basic Qualifications 

10+ years of relevant experience in leading programmatic design and delivery in a service-driven organization.

Additional Qualifications

  • MBA or an equivalent advanced degree preferred
  • Higher education experience preferred but not required.
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of financial management, human resources, marketing, operations, and technology.
  • Proven experience in leading, developing, and managing teams.
  • Track record in building and cultivating long-term relationships—with internal and external stakeholders—to ensure alignment of core business operations.
